The problem
Intervention: Summer Food Service Program providing meals to children during summer break
Who it was tested with: Elementary school children (N=60) recruited in 2021-22 and 2022-23 school years and their parents.
The same group is measured before the intervention and again afterwards, with a baseline and an endline and sometimes a midline. Change is visible, but other causes cannot be ruled out.
"A single group, prospective, staggered cohort design will be used for the proposed study. Two cohorts of 30 (N=60) elementary students and their parents will be recruited during the 2021-22 and 2022-23 school year. Each participant will complete a measurement session at three time-points: Baseline (spring), Post-Program (program end), and Follow-Up (following spring)." This is a pre-post design measuring the same group before and after program participation without a comparison group.
This is a protocol describing planned evaluation rather than results. The single-group design without a comparison group cannot isolate program effects from other factors. Results are anticipated rather than actual.
