The problem
Intervention: Healthy Lifestyle Empowerment Program (HLEP) consisting of four weekly 45-60 minute educational sessions focused on health-promoting behaviours
Who it was tested with: 64 mothers of children with type 1 diabetes in Tehran, Iran.
Children or communities are compared with a group that did not receive the intervention, or followed over years. This is the design that best separates what the intervention did from everything else that changed.
"In this experimental study in Tehran (2024), 64 mothers of children with T1D were randomly assigned to the intervention (n = 32) and control (n = 32) groups...Data were collected using the Caregiver Burden Index (CBI) and Health-Promoting Lifestyle Profile II (HPLP-II) at baseline, immediately after and 12 weeks post-intervention." This is a randomised controlled trial with repeated measurements over time, meeting the criteria for experimental evidence tier with a comparison group.
Single-site study in Tehran limits generalisability; no details provided on intervention content specificity; follow-up limited to 12 weeks; unclear whether the p = 0.311 reported for care burden reduction in intervention group indicates statistical significance.
