The problem
Intervention: Identification of missed vaccination opportunities when mothers visit private healthcare facilities, with policy and technological solutions proposed to refer children to vaccination services
Who it was tested with: Children aged 1-5 years in Pakistan and their mothers (103,464 eligible children from 195,000 households).
Experience from people who deliver programmes: stories, case studies and lessons learned. Valuable for understanding how and why, and for spotting what to test next, but not a measure of effect.
"Secondary data analysis was conducted using the Pakistan Social and Living Standards Measurement Survey (PSLM) 2019-20, comprising 195,000 households and 103,464 eligible children. Weighted multivariate binomial logistic regression was used to explore the association between maternal visits to private healthcare facilities and MOV, adjusting for sociodemographic variables." This is observational research identifying disparities in a healthcare system rather than testing an intervention to improve vaccination outcomes.
This is a cross-sectional analysis without a comparison or control group, so it identifies associations but cannot demonstrate that private facility visits cause missed vaccinations. The study does not evaluate the effectiveness of proposed policy or technological solutions for closing the vaccination gap.
