The problem
Intervention: Authoritative parenting style and associated feeding practices (perceived responsibility, concern about child weight, pressure to eat, and monitoring)
Who it was tested with: 431 children aged 5-14 years admitted to Teaching Hospital Jaffna for minor ailments and their parents.
Experience from people who deliver programmes: stories, case studies and lessons learned. Valuable for understanding how and why, and for spotting what to test next, but not a measure of effect.
"Data was analyzed using SPSS 25.0, and path analysis was conducted using SPSS AMOS 26.0." The study used structural equation modeling to examine associations between parenting styles and nutritional outcomes in a defined population, but being cross-sectional rather than longitudinal or experimental, the evidence tier is limited to demonstrating correlation rather than causal effect.
Cross-sectional design cannot establish causality. Hospital-based sample may not represent community population. The weak association found suggests other unmeasured factors also influence nutritional outcomes.
