The problem
Intervention: Health education interventions delivered by community health nurses using culturally sensitive communication strategies to educate communities about Chhaupadi's harms
Who it was tested with: Community Health Registered Nurses (n=11) actively involved in Chhaupadi eradication efforts in Karnali Province, Nepal.
Experience from people who deliver programmes: stories, case studies and lessons learned. Valuable for understanding how and why, and for spotting what to test next, but not a measure of effect.
"In-depth, semi-structured interviews were conducted with eleven CHRNs, selected based on purposive sampling for their active involvement in Chhaupadi eradication efforts" supplemented by "thematic analysis." This is a qualitative study capturing practitioner experiences and lessons learned from implementing health education interventions, without measurement of intervention outcomes or use of comparison groups.
The study is based on nurse reports without measurement of actual changes in Chhaupadi practice prevalence or documented health outcomes among affected girls and women. No comparison group or outcome data were collected, making it impossible to assess whether the interventions actually reduced Chhaupadi practice.
