The problem
Intervention: Community-based visual arts intervention consisting of 1-hour weekly sessions over 9 months led by a professional artist, culminating in community art exhibitions
Who it was tested with: Children aged 6 to 12 years from socioeconomically disadvantaged neighborhoods (n=156; intervention n=104, waitlist control n=52).
Children or communities are compared with a group that did not receive the intervention, or followed over years. This is the design that best separates what the intervention did from everything else that changed.
"The intervention consists of 1-hour weekly visual arts sessions over 9 months led by a professional artist, culminating in community art exhibitions. Assessments will be conducted at baseline (T1) and postintervention assessment (T2) using validated measures." The study will provide evidence on whether structured art sessions improve mental health outcomes in disadvantaged children, but findings are not yet available.
This is a protocol document with no results yet. The nonrandomized cluster design limits causal inference. No information provided on fidelity, dropout rates, or implementation challenges.
