The problem
Intervention: Feel4Diabetes school- and community-based family intervention targeting parent-child dyads
Who it was tested with: 2402 high-risk families across six European countries (Austria, Belgium, Germany, Spain, Finland, Greece) with overweight or obese parents and/or children.
Experience from people who deliver programmes: stories, case studies and lessons learned. Valuable for understanding how and why, and for spotting what to test next, but not a measure of effect.
"a school- and community-based intervention targeting European families at risk for Type 2 diabetes" and "Data were drawn from 2402 high-risk families across six European countries. For participants with overweight/obesity, improvement meant ≥ 5% parental weight loss and a ≥ 0.15-unit child BMI-z reduction. Multiple logistic regression models identified socio-demographic and contextual predictors of dyadic improvement." This represents a prospective observational study measuring the same families before and after intervention without a randomised control group.
No comparison group to establish whether improvements would have occurred without intervention; no analysis of mechanisms explaining differential outcomes; very low overall success rate limits generalisability
