The problem
Intervention: Once-weekly subcutaneous semaglutide (glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonist) at dose up to 2.4 mg for 36 weeks as adjunct to standard care
Who it was tested with: 34 adolescents aged 12-18 years with obesity (BMI SD score ≥+1.28 and body fat ≥95th percentile) receiving stable antipsychotic treatment for psychiatric diagnoses (psychotic disorders, mood disorders, neurodevelopmental disorders).
The same group is measured before the intervention and again afterwards, with a baseline and an endline and sometimes a midline. Change is visible, but other causes cannot be ruled out.
"The aim of this trial is to assess the feasibility of a 36-week treatment period with a glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonist as an adjunct to standard care in adolescents with antipsychotic-associated obesity, defined as completion from baseline to end of treatment." This protocol describes a feasibility study intended to generate preliminary data before a full randomised controlled trial, using a before-after design.
This is a protocol document describing a planned study, not a completed trial with results. The single-arm, open-label design without a comparison group means efficacy cannot be established, only feasibility. No empirical findings are available.
