The problem
Intervention: Strengthened ward development committees receiving funding, RMNCH+N commodities, outreach support, human resources, and technical assistance
Who it was tested with: Caregivers of children aged 0-59 months in Kolokuma/Opokuma LGA, Bayelsa State, Nigeria.
The same group is measured before the intervention and again afterwards, with a baseline and an endline and sometimes a midline. Change is visible, but other causes cannot be ruled out.
"A quasi-experimental study design without a control group was used, with data collected at the baseline, midline and endline using a pre-posttest questionnaire." The study measured the same population over time but lacked a comparison group to attribute causality, and some outcomes (vaccine knowledge and acceptance) worsened despite overall improvements in service utilisation.
No control group for comparison; single LGA limits generalisability; cannot isolate which component of the multi-faceted intervention drove the improvements; decline in vaccine acceptability suggests intervention did not address all health outcomes equally
