The problem
Intervention: Eight weeks of standardised nutritional rehabilitation, including therapeutic feeding, micronutrient supplementation and management of associated complications
Who it was tested with: 150 children aged 1–6 years diagnosed with SAM (WHO criteria) at the Department of Paediatrics, Khairpur Medical College, Sindh.
The same group is measured before the intervention and again afterwards, with a baseline and an endline and sometimes a midline. Change is visible, but other causes cannot be ruled out.
"Anthropometric parameters and neurodevelopmental domains (cognitive, motor, language, and social) were assessed at baseline and post-intervention." This shows one group measured before and after treatment with no comparison group, so it is a pre-post design.
No control group, single site, short six-month duration, no long-term follow-up, and possible confounding from natural recovery or maturation. Even after treatment, fewer than 54% of children had normal development.
