The problem
Intervention: Assessment of current firearm storage practices (hidden and unlocked storage) to identify risk factors
Who it was tested with: Colorado firearm owners (n=432), including 31.3% of households with children present.
Experience from people who deliver programmes: stories, case studies and lessons learned. Valuable for understanding how and why, and for spotting what to test next, but not a measure of effect.
"Data are from the 2023 Colorado Firearm Injury Prevention Survey, an online state-representative survey. Sociodemographic characteristics, number and type of firearms owned, and storage practices were assessed for respondents who reported owning at least one firearm (n = 432)." This is a descriptive epidemiological study that identifies a child safety problem (hidden and unlocked firearm storage) but does not test interventions to prevent injuries.
This is a descriptive cross-sectional survey without comparison groups or intervention testing. It documents current practices but cannot evaluate the effectiveness of any safety intervention or determine causal relationships. Self-reported data may not reflect actual storage practices.
