The problem
Intervention: Parental feeding practices including exclusive breastfeeding and provision of healthy food environments as part of nurturing care approach
Who it was tested with: Children aged 24-36 months in Bogor Regency, Indonesia; 80 participants (40 stunted, 40 non-stunted).
The same group is measured before the intervention and again afterwards, with a baseline and an endline and sometimes a midline. Change is visible, but other causes cannot be ruled out.
"A case-control design was conducted on 80 participants consist of two groups: stunted and control children aged 24-36 months. Data were collected from structured questionnaires filled out by parents. Chi-square and mann-whitney analysis with statistical significance expressed at 95% CI were used." The study compared two existing groups retrospectively through parental reporting, making it a case-control observational design rather than an experimental intervention trial.
Cross-sectional design cannot establish causation. Data based on parental self-report via questionnaire. No information on other potential confounders such as household income, sanitation, or maternal education.
