The problem
Intervention: Suubi + Adherence4Youth: a multi-component intervention combining financial literacy training, incentivized matched youth savings accounts with income-generating activities, a manualized visual-based ART adherence and stigma reduction intervention, and engagement with HIV treatment-experienced role
Who it was tested with: 576 adolescents living with HIV aged 11-17 years enrolled from 48 health clinics in Uganda.
Children or communities are compared with a group that did not receive the intervention, or followed over years. This is the design that best separates what the intervention did from everything else that changed.
"The overall goal of this new study is to identify the most impactful and sustainable economic and psychosocial components across 48 health clinics in Uganda." The study uses a factorial experimental design with randomization to component combinations and longitudinal follow-up to test which elements of a complex intervention drive improvements in HIV treatment adherence.
This is a prospective study protocol with no outcome data yet available. The study design and methodology are described but results cannot be evaluated. The factorial design with 16 conditions may create challenges in statistical power for detecting effects of individual components.
