The problem
Intervention: Integrated labor-delivery-recovery-postpartum (LDRP) unit model allowing continuous care in a single room throughout labor, delivery, recovery, and early postpartum period
Who it was tested with: 542 low-risk, full-term, singleton parturients at a tertiary hospital in China (LDRP group n=not specified, traditional group n=not specified).
Children or communities are compared with a group that did not receive the intervention, or followed over years. This is the design that best separates what the intervention did from everything else that changed.
"A total of 542 low-risk, full-term, singleton parturients voluntarily selected either the LDRP or traditional delivery mode. Outcomes between groups were compared using propensity score matching, multivariate regression, Bayesian analysis, and machine learning." This prospective cohort design with propensity score matching and multiple statistical approaches provides quasi-experimental evidence by controlling for measured confounders between non-randomized comparison groups.
Voluntary selection by participants may introduce selection bias. Study limited to low-risk pregnancies at a single high-volume tertiary center, affecting generalizability. The protective effect on postpartum hemorrhage lacks robust statistical support after adjustment.
