The problem
Intervention: Nurturing Connections Program: a specialised public mental health service targeting caregivers of young children referred to mental health services, aiming to improve caregiver mental health and psychosocial adversity, child developmental outcomes, and the child-caregiver relationship
Who it was tested with: Caregivers of young children referred to mental health services across three Australian local health districts in New South Wales.
Experience from people who deliver programmes: stories, case studies and lessons learned. Valuable for understanding how and why, and for spotting what to test next, but not a measure of effect.
"Twelve caregivers participated in semi-structured, in-depth interviews. A reflexive thematic analysis approach guided data interpretation." This is practitioner-level evidence based on caregiver experiences and perceptions rather than measured outcomes or experimental design.
Small sample size (n=12) with no comparison group or control condition. Study captures only caregiver perceptions without objective measurement of child outcomes or independent verification of reported changes. No data on implementation fidelity, engagement rates, or outcomes for those who did not complete the program.
