The problem
Intervention: A global partnership between a Ugandan hospital (CURE) and a US children's hospital (Lurie Children's) to establish a pediatric epilepsy surgery program.
Who it was tested with: Interdisciplinary health care providers (pediatric neurologists, neuroradiologists, EEG technologists, medical officers, neurosurgeons) involved in the Uganda program from 2019-2024.
Experience from people who deliver programmes: stories, case studies and lessons learned. Valuable for understanding how and why, and for spotting what to test next, but not a measure of effect.
"Interdisciplinary health care providers from CURE and Lurie Children's who participated in the development of the surgical epilepsy program from 2019 to 2024 underwent semistructured qualitative interviews." This is a qualitative practitioner-experience study without a comparison group or outcome measurement for children.
The study is based on staff perceptions rather than measured patient outcomes, and involves a small sample of nine interviewees from one program.
