The problem
Intervention: Assessment of barriers to immunisation access during COVID-19 lockdown period; no intervention was implemented
Who it was tested with: Children attending a tertiary care centre in Mumbai, and guardians of beneficiaries (n=93 interviewed).
The same group is measured before the intervention and again afterwards, with a baseline and an endline and sometimes a midline. Change is visible, but other causes cannot be ruled out.
"Data of daily routine childhood immunisations in the year 2019 and 2020 was collected from the immunisation records register of Child Welfare Centre (CWC) of the tertiary care centre. The baseline (2019) and the COVID-19 lockdown period data were compared to analyse the impact on daily routine childhood immunisation uptake." The study uses a before-and-after comparison design to document the negative impact of pandemic responses on immunisation service delivery.
This is an observational study comparing two time periods without a control group; it cannot establish causal mechanisms or predict outcomes under different intervention strategies. Data collection was limited to one facility in Mumbai.
