The problem
Intervention: Participation in universal new parent groups (NPGs) offering education, peer support, and social connection
Who it was tested with: New parents during early parenthood and postnatal period.
Experience from people who deliver programmes: stories, case studies and lessons learned. Valuable for understanding how and why, and for spotting what to test next, but not a measure of effect.
"A scoping review was conducted using the Arksey and O'Malley framework as a guide. MEDLINE, CINAHL Ultimate, APA PsycINFO, and Scopus were searched. Studies examining outcomes associated with participation in universal NPGs during early parenthood were included." This is a systematic mapping review of existing evidence rather than a single intervention trial, representing practitioner-level evidence synthesised from multiple sources.
Only nine studies included; no studies published after 2018; evidence on parent-infant bonding was limited and primarily indirect; scoping review methodology does not assess quality of included studies; countries of origin of studies not specified.
