The problem
Intervention: Vitamin A prophylaxis programme delivered through government health facilities, integrated with immunisation schedules, with health worker reminders
Who it was tested with: Children under five years of age in Kozhikode Corporation, Kerala, India (n=113).
Experience from people who deliver programmes: stories, case studies and lessons learned. Valuable for understanding how and why, and for spotting what to test next, but not a measure of effect.
"The data obtained from the subjects was verified using immunisation card. The study findings showed that more than half of the children (57%) have partial coverage, while 35 percentage of subjects had full coverage and about 8 percentage of subjects had no coverage of vitamin A prophylaxis programme." The study documents current coverage rates and identifies both barriers and facilitators to programme uptake, providing descriptive evidence about implementation but without comparison groups or randomisation.
Convenience sampling limits generalisability; single urban location in Kerala; cross-sectional design cannot determine causality; small sample size; findings may not reflect rural or other geographic areas
