The problem
Intervention: Mixed-methods assessment including household surveys, focus group discussions, and key informant interviews to understand prevalence, risk factors, and contextual drivers of child marriage
Who it was tested with: Internally displaced persons and host communities in Yemen; 1,210 female adults, 8,400 household roster members, 1,210 female adolescents, 411 focus group participants, and 30 key informants.
Experience from people who deliver programmes: stories, case studies and lessons learned. Valuable for understanding how and why, and for spotting what to test next, but not a measure of effect.
"We conducted a survey of internally displaced persons (IDPs) and host communities using a stratified multistage cluster sampling design... We used multivariate logistic regression to assess the association between child marriage and various risk factors. We also used data from focus groups... and key informant interviews... to explore community perspectives and understand contextual factors." This is an observational study documenting the prevalence, risk factors, and contextual drivers of child marriage rather than evaluating a specific intervention designed to prevent it.
This is a descriptive and exploratory study documenting associations and contextual factors rather than testing an intervention. The cross-sectional design cannot demonstrate causation. Findings are specific to Yemen during conflict and may not generalize to other contexts.
