The problem
Intervention: Simulation-based learning programme using CPR manikins, video demonstrations, role-play, and information booklets, with reinforcement sessions
Who it was tested with: 160 higher secondary school students from two schools in Kollam district, India.
Children or communities are compared with a group that did not receive the intervention, or followed over years. This is the design that best separates what the intervention did from everything else that changed.
"A true experimental pre-test–post-test control group design was used to assess the impact and outcome of simulation-based learning programme on knowledge and skills related to BLS and first aid management." The randomized comparison group design with multiple post-test measurements allows for attribution of improvements to the intervention.
Study conducted in one district with two schools, limiting generalisability. No report of long-term retention beyond 30 days or actual performance in real emergency situations.
