The problem
Intervention: Behavioural feedback intervention delivered by community health helpers through an app, telephone calls, and in-person visits, with maternal mental health screening and support
Who it was tested with: 210 mother-infant pairs recruited at delivery from community clinics in Soweto, South Africa.
Children or communities are compared with a group that did not receive the intervention, or followed over years. This is the design that best separates what the intervention did from everything else that changed.
"The trial will consist of a standard of care arm and an intervention arm. The intervention will start at birth and end at 12 months, and outcome assessments will be made when the infants are 0, 6 and 12 months of age. The intervention will be delivered by community health helpers using an app with resource material, telephone calls, in person visits and behavioural feedback." This describes a randomised design with comparison groups and multiple assessment timepoints, meeting the experimental tier definition.
This is a protocol, not a completed trial, so no efficacy or effectiveness data are presented. Outcomes and results will only be known after data collection and analysis are completed.
