The problem
Intervention: Government nutrition and welfare programmes, with flexible expansion during the COVID-19 pandemic; interventions to enhance dietary diversity and WASH access
Who it was tested with: Children in India, with comparative focus on Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh states.
Experience from people who deliver programmes: stories, case studies and lessons learned. Valuable for understanding how and why, and for spotting what to test next, but not a measure of effect.
"The study employs a mixed-methods approach, combining a quantitative analysis of data from India's National Family Health Surveys (NFHS) IV (2015–16) and V (2019–21) with a qualitative comparative case study." This is a before-and-after observational study measuring the same population across two time points with no randomised comparison group, and therefore classified as PRE_POST evidence tier.
The design cannot establish causation, only correlation. The comparative qualitative analysis is limited to two states. The study does not isolate the independent contribution of each intervention component.
