The problem
Intervention: Qualitative exploration of shared decision-making processes within families regarding return to sport after concussion
Who it was tested with: 8 adolescent-parent dyads (n=16) who had experienced sports-related concussion in past 2 years and received tertiary sports medicine care.
Experience from people who deliver programmes: stories, case studies and lessons learned. Valuable for understanding how and why, and for spotting what to test next, but not a measure of effect.
"Individual interviews were conducted separately with members of 8 adolescent-parent dyads (n = 16). All adolescent participants had been diagnosed with a sports-related concussion in the past 2 years and received tertiary sports medicine care." This qualitative interview approach with no comparison group or pre-post measurement represents practitioner-level evidence that describes decision-making processes without evaluating intervention effectiveness.
Small, non-representative sample from tertiary care setting limits generalizability. Study is exploratory and qualitative, without comparison groups or measurement of actual decision-making outcomes. Authors explicitly state additional research needed with more representative samples.
