The problem
Intervention: Augmentation of routine pregnancy ultrasound with information about fetal and infant development, parent wellbeing, and infant care practices, delivered to pregnant women and their partners
Who it was tested with: Pregnant women attending fetal ultrasound at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital in Soweto, South Africa, and their partners.
Children or communities are compared with a group that did not receive the intervention, or followed over years. This is the design that best separates what the intervention did from everything else that changed.
"The HPHB intervention, a novel combination of a health and a parenting intervention that augments a routine service (US), is being tested through a randomized controlled trial with outcome assessments at 6 weeks and 6 months follow-up." This indicates a randomized experimental design, though outcomes have not yet been reported in this paper.
This implementation paper does not report outcome results, so the effectiveness of the intervention cannot be determined. The timing and status of outcome data release are unclear.
