The problem
Intervention: A nationwide web-based training program for school professionals covering food allergy concepts, allergen avoidance, anaphylaxis management, and school-based practices, based on European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology guidelines and national authorities
Who it was tested with: 639 Portuguese school professionals (477 completed the evaluation), including pre-test, post-test, and pre-post comparison groups.
Children or communities are compared with a group that did not receive the intervention, or followed over years. This is the design that best separates what the intervention did from everything else that changed.
"A quasi-experimental interventional study was conducted among 639 Portuguese school professionals... Knowledge scores increased significantly from baseline (62.1%) to post-intervention (79.6%) (p < 0.001)." The design included multiple assessment groups with pre-post measurement, making it quasi-experimental; the significant improvements in knowledge represent a measurable intervention effect on the targeted outcomes.
Study measured only knowledge and perceived competence using self-report questionnaires; no assessment of changes in actual school practices, emergency response capabilities, or child outcomes; quasi-experimental design without a full control group
