The problem
Intervention: Gender transformative, whole-family support programming aimed at building adolescent girls' protective assets against violence
Who it was tested with: Adolescent girls, adolescent boys, adult male and female caregivers, and program staff in two internally displaced people communities in Maiduguri, Borno State, Northeast Nigeria.
Experience from people who deliver programmes: stories, case studies and lessons learned. Valuable for understanding how and why, and for spotting what to test next, but not a measure of effect.
"Through a qualitative implementation evaluation informed by a grounded theoretical approach, we explored the perceived impact of a gender transformative, whole-family support intervention." The study used qualitative methods with interviews and focus groups to explore perceived impacts rather than measuring actual behavioral change or using experimental design.
The study is qualitative with no comparison group and relies on self-reported changes in attitude and behavior rather than measured outcomes. Sample size is small and limited to two communities. No follow-up data on sustainability of changes.
