The problem
Intervention: Adaptation of a U.S.-based evidence-based intervention (4Rs and 2Ss) renamed 'Amaka Amasanyufu' (Happy Families) for delivery to youth with behavioral challenges and their caregivers
Who it was tested with: Youth exhibiting behavioral challenges and their caregivers in 30 schools across Uganda.
Children or communities are compared with a group that did not receive the intervention, or followed over years. This is the design that best separates what the intervention did from everything else that changed.
"The process involved: initial meetings with headteachers and teachers to introduce the study and the main concepts of the intervention; initial manual review focusing on 4Rs and 2Ss content by the Uganda team; engagement of community stakeholders for additional feedback on content and cultural relevance; final revision of the manual; and collection of children's drawings for the illustration of the manual." This describes a structured adaptation process as part of a stated randomized trial, but the paper focuses on adaptation methodology rather than intervention effectiveness.
The document describes only the adaptation methodology and does not report outcome data, effectiveness measures, or trial results. The randomized trial results are not included in this paper.
