The problem
Intervention: Accelerating Nutrition Results in Nigeria (ANRiN) project, a nutrition intervention for mothers and young children
Who it was tested with: 503 mothers of children aged 6–23 months in Plateau State, Nigeria, both ANRiN beneficiaries and non-beneficiaries.
Experience from people who deliver programmes: stories, case studies and lessons learned. Valuable for understanding how and why, and for spotting what to test next, but not a measure of effect.
"A mixed-methods cross-sectional design was employed." A single-time comparison without randomisation or a clear quasi-experimental design cannot support the experimental tier, so the lower tier was chosen.
Cross-sectional with no baseline or random assignment, so differences may reflect pre-existing differences between the groups and the results show association rather than effect. No child growth outcomes were reported, and the data were self-reported.
