The problem
Intervention: Living in higher-opportunity neighbourhoods (with better educational and social/economic resources)
Who it was tested with: 4,633 DC Metro Area youth aged 2-22 referred for neuropsychological evaluation.
Experience from people who deliver programmes: stories, case studies and lessons learned. Valuable for understanding how and why, and for spotting what to test next, but not a measure of effect.
"Multiple regression analyses examined associations between COI and IQ and explored moderation of age, sex, and medical condition." The study uses regression analysis to examine associations between neighbourhood opportunity and cognitive outcomes in a clinically referred sample, controlling for key variables.
Observational, cross-sectional design cannot establish causation. Sample is clinically referred and from one metropolitan area, limiting generalisability. Many other factors affecting cognitive development not measured.
