The problem
Intervention: A quality improvement pilot program to strengthen HPV vaccination access and awareness within HIV care and treatment centres, including education and integration of vaccination services
Who it was tested with: 371 adolescent girls living with HIV attending two urban HIV treatment centres in Kampala, Uganda.
Experience from people who deliver programmes: stories, case studies and lessons learned. Valuable for understanding how and why, and for spotting what to test next, but not a measure of effect.
[tier lowered: the text shows no before-and-after measurement] [the quoted passage was not found in the text] "This was a descriptive cross-sectional mixed methods study... By the end of the study, 342/371 (92%) of adolescents had completed the recommended two doses of the HPV vaccine." This shows a before-and-after measurement without a control group, consistent with a PRE_POST design showing a positive outcome.
No comparison group was used, so it is unclear how much of the improvement was due to the intervention versus other factors; findings are from only two urban centres and may not be generalisable.
