The problem
Intervention: Digital literacy interventions delivered through schools or interactive online platforms, using age-appropriate and experiential learning with parental and teacher involvement, including gamified or scenario-based content
Who it was tested with: Children aged 6-14 years.
Children or communities are compared with a group that did not receive the intervention, or followed over years. This is the design that best separates what the intervention did from everything else that changed.
"Following PRISMA guidelines, we systematically searched PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, ERIC, and PsycINFO for studies published between 2012 and 2024. Eligible studies evaluated digital literacy interventions among children aged 6–14 years-old, reporting outcomes on online risk reduction and safer digital behaviors." The review pooled evidence from multiple experimental and quasi-experimental studies with pre-defined outcome measures of risk reduction and behavioral change.
The review includes heterogeneous study designs and contexts from 2012-2024, limiting precision of effect size estimates. Specific outcome metrics and effect sizes are not detailed in the abstract. Barriers to implementation (teacher training, cultural adaptation, access inequities) suggest real-world effectiveness may be lower than trial results.
