The problem
Intervention: Circus performances in community settings involving a child with medical complexity, supported by close interdisciplinary collaboration between healthcare providers and families
Who it was tested with: One 6-year-old child with medical complexity in Japan.
Experience from people who deliver programmes: stories, case studies and lessons learned. Valuable for understanding how and why, and for spotting what to test next, but not a measure of effect.
"We involved a 6-year-old CMC in circus performances held in three Japanese cities. Despite medical challenges, the child safely participated and experienced psychological growth through nervousness, ambition, and communication." This design is a practitioner case study documenting one child's experience with a community-based creative intervention, showing the feasibility and potential benefits of inclusion efforts for children with medical complexity.
Single case study with no comparison group, no control or baseline measurements, no quantified outcome data, and no long-term follow-up reported. Findings reflect one child's experience in one cultural context and cannot be generalised.
