The problem
Intervention: Standard dietary supplement prescribing practices (probiotics, multivitamins-minerals-amino acids, zinc combinations) in routine outpatient care
Who it was tested with: 1,000 Vietnamese pediatric outpatients examined by age, nutritional status, and clinical diagnosis.
Experience from people who deliver programmes: stories, case studies and lessons learned. Valuable for understanding how and why, and for spotting what to test next, but not a measure of effect.
"A 2024 cross-sectional study of 1000 Vietnamese pediatric outpatients examined DS use by age, nutritional status, and disease, and assessed age and dosage adherence." The study characterized current prescribing patterns and evaluated appropriateness by comparing observed practices against evidence-based dosing standards and clinical need.
Cross-sectional design without outcome measurement; inability to determine whether prescribing practices improved child health; no evaluation of family adherence to prescribed supplements; no assessment of clinical rationale for prescribing decisions.
