The problem
Intervention: Implementation of an Electronic Immunisation Registry (EIR) for routine immunisation data collection and management
Who it was tested with: 26 healthcare workers and 18 stakeholders in Laos; 849,055 vaccination events assessed.
Experience from people who deliver programmes: stories, case studies and lessons learned. Valuable for understanding how and why, and for spotting what to test next, but not a measure of effect.
"Data were collected (April–June 2024) using document review, health facility surveys, interviews, workflow observations and data quality assessments. Data were analysed separately and then triangulated to develop recommendations." This descriptive mixed-methods approach captures implementation experiences and data quality issues but lacks a control group or longitudinal impact measurement necessary to establish whether the intervention improves health outcomes.
Study did not assess impact on actual vaccination coverage rates or child health outcomes. Evaluation period was short (3 months). The study identifies implementation barriers but cannot quantify their effect on system performance.
