Intervention: Longitudinal neurological assessment using the Hammersmith Infant Neurological Assessment (HINE) at 3, 6, and 9 months corrected age
Who it was tested with: 79 prenatally STORCH-exposed infants and unexposed controls at 38.25 weeks' gestation; 53.16% boys.
Children or communities are compared with a group that did not receive the intervention, or followed over years. This is the design that best separates what the intervention did from everything else that changed.
"Linear mixed-effects models assessed HINE trajectories; logistic regression analyzed associations with atypical outcomes. Group comparisons evaluated cerebral palsy risk and suboptimality." The study uses a longitudinal design with repeated measures at defined intervals and comparison groups to evaluate trajectories and predictive associations, meeting experimental criteria.
The study uses only observational follow-up without randomized intervention; outcomes measured only until 18 months, limiting assessment of longer-term prognosis.
