The problem
Intervention: 12-week AI human–machine collaborative art education using a child-specific improved WGAN-GP creative synthesis model
Who it was tested with: 120 children aged 6–14 in China, in three age bands (6–8, 9–11, 12–14).
Children or communities are compared with a group that did not receive the intervention, or followed over years. This is the design that best separates what the intervention did from everything else that changed.
"a quasi-experimental design was adopted, and the intervention effect was inferred by the correlation between groups and the changes within groups, without strict causal attribution" - the study compares an intervention group with a control group, which fits the experimental tier, though the authors caution against causal claims.
Small sample, quasi-experimental design without strict causal attribution, possible confounders (tool familiarity, personal preference, exploration behaviour), a self-made aesthetic scale, and AI-assisted output that does not reflect independent ability. Short 12-week period.
