The problem
Intervention: Single dose of CoronaVac (inactivated SARS-CoV-2 vaccine)
Who it was tested with: 27 healthy children aged 7 months to 5 years who were inadvertently vaccinated.
Experience from people who deliver programmes: stories, case studies and lessons learned. Valuable for understanding how and why, and for spotting what to test next, but not a measure of effect.
"serum samples were collected at the first visit and 30 days after vaccination and tested for SARS-CoV-2 S1 serology... Only one child had a mild symptom after vaccination, with no other adverse events documented up to the 30 days follow-up." The study measured pre-vaccination and post-vaccination immune responses in the same population without a comparison group, making it a pre-post observational design.
Small sample size from accidental vaccination event; no control group; limited follow-up period of only 30 days; selection bias as children were inadvertently vaccinated outside of approved protocols
