The problem
Intervention: National Volume-Based Procurement (NVBP) policy that significantly reduced statin prices through bulk purchasing and generic competition
Who it was tested with: Children treated in all levels of children's hospitals across China.
The same group is measured before the intervention and again afterwards, with a baseline and an endline and sometimes a midline. Change is visible, but other causes cannot be ruled out.
"The study used interrupted time series regression to analyse all levels of children's hospitals across the country's monthly procurement records of statins, covering the period from January 2019 to December 2020." This design with a clear policy implementation point and pre-post comparison data constitutes an experimental approach to evaluating the policy's impact.
Study measures procurement and expenditure changes but does not report clinical outcomes or health impacts; limited to formal hospital sector; two-year follow-up period may not capture longer-term effects
