The problem
Intervention: Little Aussie Bugs online professional development course combining dialogic book series and online learning for early childhood educators
Who it was tested with: Early childhood education and care educators in Australia.
Experience from people who deliver programmes: stories, case studies and lessons learned. Valuable for understanding how and why, and for spotting what to test next, but not a measure of effect.
"This mixed methods study evaluated the course pilot and examined its contribution through the lens of the Ottawa Charter for Health Promotion" with "Quantitative findings demonstrated statistically significant improvements in educators' overall health literacy scores and confidence using dialogic reading to deliver health messages." The study measured educator outcomes before and after the intervention without a comparison group, making it a pre-post design.
No control group to compare against; no direct measurement of children's learning outcomes or behavioural change; unclear if improvements were sustained beyond the immediate post-intervention period; implementation gaps in policy alignment and equity were identified but not addressed
