The problem
Intervention: Multifaceted integrated intervention including health education courses, dietary guidance, and increased physical activity delivered through kindergartens, online parental education, and community engagement

Children or communities are compared with a group that did not receive the intervention, or followed over years. This is the design that best separates what the intervention did from everything else that changed.
"This cluster randomized controlled trial is being conducted among children aged 3 to 6 years in Suzhou City, Jiangsu Province. Children from 3 kindergartens were randomly assigned to the intervention group and children from 3 other kindergartens were assigned to the control group." This describes a cluster-randomized design comparing intervention to control groups, the standard experimental approach, though outcomes are not yet available.
