The problem
Intervention: Digital market priming campaign using Facebook and Instagram advertising to increase caregiver awareness and readiness for HPV vaccination prior to service resumption
Who it was tested with: Caregivers of adolescent girls aged 9-17 years attending vaccination sites in Abuja during the five-day MNCH week service resumption; 271 survey respondents.
Experience from people who deliver programmes: stories, case studies and lessons learned. Valuable for understanding how and why, and for spotting what to test next, but not a measure of effect.
"We conducted a cross-sectional exit survey of 271 caregivers of adolescent girls aged 9-17 years attending vaccination sites during MNCH week. The survey collected data on... recall of HPV vaccine advertising on Facebook or Instagram, and caregiver-reported adolescent vaccination status. Survey findings were triangulated with administrative data... Ward-level regression analyses using administrative data compared vaccinations delivered in wards targeted by the digital campaign with those in non-targeted wards." The study uses a comparison group (targeted vs. non-targeted wards) with administrative outcome data, constituting a quasi-experimental design.
Reliance on caregiver-reported vaccination status rather than verified clinical records; short five-day service window limits assessment of sustained impact; potential unmeasured confounding despite 2SRI sensitivity analysis; cross-sectional design cannot establish causality
