The problem
Intervention: Standard clinical management of pediatric burn injuries (no specific intervention described); developmental tracking using the Dutch Development Instrument and D-score
Who it was tested with: 38 pediatric burn patients aged up to 2.5 years at time of injury with non-full thickness burns.
The same group is measured before the intervention and again afterwards, with a baseline and an endline and sometimes a midline. Change is visible, but other causes cannot be ruled out.
"Data from the Dutch Development Instrument were used to calculate the D-score and age-standardized D-score. Similar to a growth chart, the D-score was used to plot pediatric burn patients' development relative to Dutch reference values for their age." This pre-post comparison with reference values allows assessment of whether burn injury affected developmental trajectories in this cohort.
No comparison group; limited to non-full thickness burns; no information on psychological or functional outcomes; follow-up duration not specified; small sample size
