The problem
Intervention: Bundled educational intervention comprising: schoolwide assembly and lecture using a culturally tailored comic book; distribution of comic books to all children; separate focus groups with adult community leaders
Who it was tested with: Girls aged 9-14 across four Nigerian states (n=396).
The same group is measured before the intervention and again afterwards, with a baseline and an endline and sometimes a midline. Change is visible, but other causes cannot be ruled out.
"The three-part intervention was a schoolwide assembly and lecture for children using a culturally tailored comic book as a guide, distribution of the comic book to all the children at the school and then separate focus groups with adult community leaders." The study measured HPV knowledge and vaccine safety perception before and six weeks after the intervention, finding significant improvements in both, though knowledge gains did not translate into measured increases in vaccination uptake.
Single-arm design without comparison group prevents causal attribution. No measurement of knowledge or perception retention beyond six weeks. Vaccination receipt measured at class level rather than individual level. No assessment of actual vaccination completion.
