The problem
Intervention: ThinkUKnow programme: a one-session face-to-face classroom-based training delivered by uniformed members of the Australian Federal Police
Who it was tested with: Primary and secondary school students in Australian schools (n=1954 in post-test surveys).
Children or communities are compared with a group that did not receive the intervention, or followed over years. This is the design that best separates what the intervention did from everything else that changed.
"We present results from a cluster randomised control trial conducted to evaluate the Australian version of the ThinkUKnow programme, delivered to students in primary and secondary schools. The programme consists of one face-to-face classroom-based training session delivered by at least one uniformed member of the Australian Federal Police." The randomised design with comparison group provides experimental-level evidence, though mixed outcomes across different measures indicate differential effectiveness across domains.
Study measured only immediate post-test outcomes without long-term follow-up; no assessment of sustained behavioural change; findings may not generalise to diverse populations.
