The problem
Intervention: Use of Emerald touchless sensor to objectively measure nighttime scratching events and sleep patterns in home setting
Who it was tested with: 20 pediatric patients with moderate-to-severe atopic dermatitis aged 6-11 years.
Experience from people who deliver programmes: stories, case studies and lessons learned. Valuable for understanding how and why, and for spotting what to test next, but not a measure of effect.
"PEDISTAD EMERALD (NCT05235724), an open-label, 12-week, exploratory study, included 20 pediatric patients with moderate-to-severe AD aged 6-11 years" and "The Emerald touchless sensor can provide objective measures of itch-related scratching and sleep disturbance in children with AD in a home setting." This study validates a measurement tool's feasibility but does not evaluate whether any intervention improves children's health outcomes.
Small sample size (n=20), open-label design with no control group, no evaluation of whether any intervention changes scratching or sleep outcomes, only demonstrates measurement feasibility
