The problem
Intervention: Parental involvement in children's education through attending parent-teacher meetings, discussing schoolwork with teachers, and supervising homework
Who it was tested with: Children enrolled in government schools in India.
Experience from people who deliver programmes: stories, case studies and lessons learned. Valuable for understanding how and why, and for spotting what to test next, but not a measure of effect.
"Using data from the India Human Development Survey (2011–12) and employing ordinary least squares and instrumental variable regression, we find that parental involvement is positively associated with learning outcomes." The use of instrumental variable regression strengthens causal inference beyond simple correlation, making this an experimental-tier study design.
Cross-sectional data limits causal inference; data from 2011-12 may not reflect current conditions; causality remains uncertain despite use of instrumental variables.
