Intervention: Training of Anganwadi workers on malnutrition management and knowledge
Who it was tested with: 381 Anganwadi workers in Anekal Taluk, Bengaluru Urban District, Karnataka, India; 303 reassessed after 6 months.
The same group is measured before the intervention and again afterwards, with a baseline and an endline and sometimes a midline. Change is visible, but other causes cannot be ruled out.
"We conducted a cross-sectional before and after study among 381 Anganwadi workers on the knowledge of malnutrition. After 6 months of training, 303 among the 381 Anganwadi workers were reassessed for knowledge retainment." This is a pre-post design that measured the same group at three time points (baseline, immediately post-training, and 6 months), without a comparison group, making it pre-experimental evidence.
Study measures knowledge gains only, not actual changes in malnutrition outcomes among children. High attrition between baseline and 6-month follow-up (78 workers, 20.5%). No comparison or control group to attribute knowledge changes to the intervention. Design does not assess whether knowledge translates to practice changes.
