The problem
Intervention: Training female community health workers to provide reproductive health education, basic maternal care and referrals through the Marwo Caafimaad programme
Who it was tested with: Mothers and female community health workers in 7 villages in Puntland, Somalia.
Experience from people who deliver programmes: stories, case studies and lessons learned. Valuable for understanding how and why, and for spotting what to test next, but not a measure of effect.
[the quoted passage was not found in the text] "we conducted focus group discussions with 45 eligible mothers... and in-depth interviews with 9 community health workers" - this is a qualitative, practitioner-experience based design with no comparison group or before/after measurement.
The qualitative design with focus groups and interviews cannot measure actual changes in health outcomes and relies on self-reported perceptions rather than objective data.
