The problem
Intervention: A facilitated playgroup co-designed with families, providing a safe gathering space with structured health promotion, relationships with allied health providers and early childhood educators
Who it was tested with: 61 families with young children in a disadvantaged community.
Experience from people who deliver programmes: stories, case studies and lessons learned. Valuable for understanding how and why, and for spotting what to test next, but not a measure of effect.
"Following a needs assessment to inform policy and practice for a community early years hub, a facilitated playgroup was commenced using a model identified by families. Evaluation of demographic data and thematic analysis of focus group discussions allows a qualitative exploration of family and provider experience in the supported playgroup." The study used a participatory approach where families defined the playgroup model, with thematic analysis capturing stakeholder experiences to evaluate implementation.
Qualitative design with no comparison group or long-term follow-up; outcome measures are self-reported experiences rather than objective child development outcomes; country context unclear.
